The average healthy life expectancy of Sumida City residents is 82.12 years old for males and 85.85 years old for females (2018), which is slightly lower than that of entire Tokyo metro area. In addition, the cancer death rate and the morbidity of cardiovascular diseases that are the main cause of being bedridden are higher.
To solve these problems and to promote the city residents to extend their “healthy life expectancy” as a “time of living healthy without any inconvenience,” city office started ‘City residents Healthy Life Expectancy up Project!’ since 2016.
In this project, the city focuses on ‘walking’ which everyone from children to elders can easily practice, and promotes variety of projects under the title of “Love Walking! Project” with the collaboration of private companies and groups.
